To promote the interdisciplinary study of jazz in Portugal and in other countries from the perspectives of Ethnomusicology and Jazz Studies, focusing on its theoretical, historical, cultural, social and performative elements.
- The reception and dissemination of jazz in Portugal, with special reference to mediators, events and institutions;
- The politics associated with the reception and practice of jazz in the past and present whithin the colonial and post-colonial contexts;
- The performance, composition and jazz education in Portugal and other European countries;
- The performance of jazz as artistic research.
