Objective

To promote the interdisciplinary study of jazz in Portugal and in other countries from the perspectives of Ethnomusicology and Jazz Studies, focusing on its theoretical, historical, cultural, social and performative elements.

Priorities

• The reception and dissemination of jazz in Portugal, with special reference to mediators, events and institutions;
• The politics associated with the reception and practice of jazz in the past and present whithin the colonial and post-colonial contexts;
• The performance, composition and jazz education in Portugal and other European countries;
• The performance of jazz as artistic research.
