Abstract

With this investigation we intend to study the music and the sound in the work of the film director João César Monteiro. In the last few years, the director has obtained more and more recognition by de academy. Nonetheless, the study of the music and the sound in his movies hasn´t been the main subject of any academic work. With this investigation, we seek to understand how the musical elements articulate with the other filmic elements to form the narrative in João César Monteiro’s several movies. Therefore, through analyses and reflections about each movie, we might discover aesthetic affinities and disparities that offer a new interpretation of the director’s cinematography and contribute to define a musical path of his work, framed in the artistic history of the twentieth century.
