Abstract
TEPe is an interdisciplinary project that adopts the concept of technology in an operative sense as a strategy to amplify the possibilities of the moving bodies, and as an expansion mode of intersubjectivity areas.
TEPe is the development of Technologically Expanded Dance (TeDance), which was the first project based in Portuguese universities to propose a bidirectional crossroad between art and technology. TeDance has allowed a public presentation of the research and the dissemination of the achievements, the publication of a bilingual book with the participation of researchers of several countries, and stimulated the emergence of artistic projects, some of which of interchange between Portugal and Brazil.
TEPe broadens the dance field to the performance, insofar as this one shapes an inclusive territory of subjects and the contamination of artistic languages. Moreover, it insists on and consolidates the Atlantic connection through submitting this application to the joint call FCT / FUNCAP.
TEPe continues the research that has been carried out on the production of sonorities by human movements. With this project, we intend to develop the intensive experimentation of a motion capture device (MOCAP) in articulation with collecting and creation of sonorities.
The workflow will happen in two fields: the body and the city. TEPe intends to study more specifically the sonorities contexts in (and of) the city of Lisbon. Along with this, if we have financial support, TEPE will provide the unfolding and subsequent extension of this research to the city of Fortaleza.
The movements of the bodies in urban landscapes and the modes of production of sound and images are the main focus of the research. Our aim is to analyse the way in which the signatures of the movement bodies inscribe themselves on urban routes and how the sonority of these urban routes shape the way the individuals hear. In this realm, the sonorities appear as scores of artistic creation. And authors from different artistic backgrounds will make this artistic creation: from sound to theatre, from dance to video.
In terms of achievements, TEPe is aligned under two main axes: (1) the qualification of urban experiences, through the negotiation in site-specific of different times of the city, assuming the lability and slowing down of the city rhythms; (2) the enhancement of heritage, through the tensional display between the tangible and intangible, assuming that all material heritage has immaterial layers and all immaterial heritage has its own materialities.
The achievements are considered not only in terms of academic benchmarks – publications, sound and moving images release and young researchers training – but also contributing to other platforms, to the presence in festivals and to the organization of residences and artistic events in a site-specific system.
