Biography

Ethnomusicologist and musician. Holds a master’s degree in musical sciences from NOVA School of Social and Human Sciences, Lisbon (2024) and a degree in music production and technologies from the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts, Porto (2021). Maria Peres is currently an orchestral performer and a theatre technician. Maria was also a member of non-formal educational projects (2022-2024). In academia, Maria participated in the 6th Research Seminar of Social Impact of Music Making at the Grand Theatre del Liceu, Barcelona (2023). Maria was a validation mentor for the research project "RestART Europe-Mentoring Second-Chance Female Entrepreneurs to Restart the European Arts and Creative Sector" (ref: E+, 2021-1-FR01-KA220-SCH-000029887), at Lusófona University Lisboa (2022-2024). Participated at "Urban Imaginaries — Exploring our urban futures Summer School" promoted by COST Action SHIFT (2023), contributing to the book "Tomorrow’s Odyssey: A time traveler’s guide to our shared future(s) " (FCSH, Nova University Lisbon and COST Action SHIFT). Dedicated to music and cultural accessibility, with ethnomusicological research in interculturality and education, Maria Peres’ research interests are music, cultural accessibility, cultural education, interculturality and sociology. From July 2024, Maria is the research assistant of the project RESONANCES. A project with multisited research on music education in intercultural contexts, that is the result of a partnership between the Haute École de Musique de Genève (HEM) and INET-md, with the support of the Fondation NEOJIBA Switzerland — directed by Ricardo Castro and scientific coordinated by Alix Didier Sarrouy.
