Biography
Alejandro Reyes-Lucero, born in Venezuela, began his musicological studies at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV). He is currently studying for a PhD in Musicology - Historical Musicology at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH) of the New University of Lisbon. He has a PhD scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and is a member of the INET-md research centre, where he also held a research scholarship for the project "PROFMUS: ser músico em Portugal - a condição sócio-profissional dos músicos em Lisboa" (PROFMUS: being a musician in Portugal - the socio-professional condition of musicians in Lisbon) between 2021 and 2022. He has an eighth class honours degree in piano and completed a diploma in orchestral conducting at UCV.

"Propagating the Divine Art of Music": The musical salons in Lisbon between 1897 and 1933

Abstract
This research examines the organisation of concerts, lecture-concerts and musical activities in the context of private music salons for amateurs and professionals in Lisbon between 1897 and 1933. Based on the examples of the student auditions organised by the pianist and teacher Alexandre Rey Colaço at his home and the lecture-concerts held at the palace of the Countess of Proença-a-Velha, I propose a mapping of more private salons that held concerts or musical auditions with similar characteristics to the initiatives of the salons of Rey Colaço and the Countess of Proença-a-Velha. The research aims to:
1 - Identify the emergence, development and decline of a practice that may have been inspired by French musical salon models, but which, in turn, may have developed its own characteristics that distinguish it from examples in other countries;
2 - To analyse the concert programmes in conjunction with the initial conferences in order to understand the process of "audience formation" and its reach among the public;
3 - To provide a map of the musical sociability developed in the salons of Alexandre Rey Colaço, the Countess of Proença-a-Velha, Sara Mota Marques, Elisa de Sousa Pedroso, Maria Emília Macieira Lino, Adelaide Lima Cruz and Ema Santos Fonseca da Câmara Reis, showing the close relationships between all these figures and a wider public.
