Biography

Mônica Emilio is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is a PhD student in Human Motricity, specializing in Dance, at the Faculty of Human Motricity of the University of Lisbon. She has a master’s degree in dance from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ, a specialization in Teaching in Higher Education and a degree in Theatre from the Centro Universitário da Cidade, in Rio de Janeiro. He completed a training course for dancers at the Escola de Dança Maria Olenewa, as well as actor training at the Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras - CAL, also in Rio de Janeiro. He was part of the Research Group Investigations on the Scenic Body - GPICC/UFRJ.

She has taught on degree courses in dance and theater at Brazilian higher education institutions, including the Centro Universitário da Cidade, the Universidade Cândido Mendes, the Instituto CAL and in professional actor training at the Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras - CAL. Currently, she investigates the dynamics of communication between choreographers and dancers, associated with the articulation of images generated from verbal stimuli in dance creation processes. Her pedagogical practice and research path are deeply connected to a broad artistic career, working as a dancer, actress, choreographer/movement director, and body preparator in theatrical productions.
