Biography
Alvaro Sousa holds a PhD in Design from the University of Aveiro (2011), in the area of communication design, specialising in branding, strategic design, posters and typography. He has been a lecturer at the University of Aveiro since 1998, taking part in the undergraduate, masters and PhD degrees in design in this university. He was the Director of the Masters in Design programme at the University from 2012 to 2015. Currently, he is also the Director of Communication at PCI - Parque de Ciência e Inovação da região de Aveiro. His logo designs include the current logos for the University of Aveiro, the design of the new website of the University of Aveiro, the Municipal Council of Santa Maria da Feira, and the Teatro Aveirense. Within the scope of identity design, he also worked with projects in social innovation funded by the European Union. In 2001-2012, he was the senior consultant for the Portuguese Centre of Design. He is a research fellow at ID+, the Institute for Research in Design, Media and Culture, and collaborates with INET-MD, the Institute of Ethnomusicology, Centre for Studies in Music and Dance. He completed pot-doctoral research in vernacular typography in Rio Grande do Norte, in association with UFRN. He is one of the two editors of the Journal of International Meetings of Luso-Brazilian studies in Design and Ergonomics - Revista dos encontros internacionais de estudos luso-brasileiros em Design e Ergonomia – Ergotrip Design.
