Article | Self-regulation in online string instrument lessons: Motivation, social interaction and learning environment
PhD student Dora Utermohl de Queiroz, together with co-authors Clarissa Foletto, a researcher at INET-md, Luís Pedro, a researcher at the Digital Media and Interaction Research Center (DigiMedia) and Guadalupe López-Íñiguez, a researcher at the Sibelius Academy, published the article "Self-regulation in online string instrument lessons: Motivation, social interaction and learning environment", in the International Journal of Music Education.
This article investigates the components of three dimensions of self-regulated musical learning - motivation, social factors and the physical environment - in online lessons for rubbed string instruments. The results indicate that the opportunity to overcome geographical barriers provided by this modality led to the active involvement of the participants, while persistence was correlated with the perception of progress in the student's performance. In addition, the teachers adopted strategies to promote self-regulated behavior, such as using mental images, structuring the environment and seeking help from their peers.
The article is available in open access on the Sage Journals website.
