Abstract
This study addresses the performance work with "Brazilian music" that takes place in the nightlife of the city of Porto, presented in "Iive music" spaces, such as bars, nightclubs, restaurants, among others. When approaching this "live" music practice, I investigate how this type of musical work is carried out and sustained, considering that musicians and producers operate a network that hire musical services.

To what extent is this practice established as work, profession and career for a musician? How do musicians enlist skills and competencies to provide such a service?

What meanings does the expression "Brazilian music" assume for spaces that perform "live" musical performance and for musicians in the city of Porto?

Such ethnographic research stems from my participation as a singer and guitarist solo and in groups in the city of Porto, articulated with observations and interviews with musicians and contractors active in this context.
