Biography

Ana Isabel Ferreira was born in Porto in 1983. She completed the eighth grade of transversal flute course at the Conservatory of Music in Porto and graduated in Psychology in 2007 from Instituto Superior da Maia - ISMAI. In that same year, she started the license degree on Music Education at the Porto Polytechnic College of Education and got her graduation on 2011. Pursuing her studies, the Master’s degree was the next step and she attended on the same institution the master´s in Teaching Music Education on the Basic Education, concluding in 2013. In 2015 she entered on the PhD Music Sciences - Teaching and Psychology of Music at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon and ended it in 2023. She began her professional activity in 2006 as music teacher, teaching in Curricular Enrichment Activities in Maia City Hall, passing in 2007 and until now, to perform the same functions in the City Hall of Matosinhos. In the year 2013, she was integrated as a research grantor in specific projects at the Research Centre in Psychology of Music and Music Education, Branch of INET-md. After completing the research grant in June 2013, she remained linked to CIPEM-INET-md, as a collaborative researcher, through the project "Listen to music! O Orelhudo - a digital application for musical appreciation in the schools of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education ". This link remains to the present. In 2014 she started to work at the Instituto Orff do Porto, teaching the child class and in the transversal flute class. In the same year, and in the scope of the project Porto de Crianças, a partnership with the Porto City Council, she has developed and continues to develop the Oficina do Som project. These small steps have developed scientific, pedagogical-didactic, artistic and methodological skills within the musical sciences in formal contexts, starting from the domains that characterize the expression of human musicality. As a music educator she seek to promote opportunities to explore and make music from diverse perspectives.
