Biography

Nuno Peixoto de Pinho was born in São João da Madeira in 1980. In 2007, he finished a degree at the School of Music and Performing Arts of Porto (ESMAE) in Music Composition. Afterward, in 2016, he obtained a PhD in Science and Technology of Arts from the School of Arts(Universidade Católica do Porto) and Musik-Akademie Basel (Switzerland), where he worked under the guidance of Sofia Lourenço and Erik Oña. Consequently, in his PhD thesis, he studied the "Processes of Creation and Musical Reuse from the works of the composer Jorge Peixinho (1940-1995)". He has experience as a composer and embraces multiple genres and formats, from orchestral music to chamber music, including vocal music and ensemble. His repertoire reveals a special dedication to pre-existing music, from which he produces transformations and establishes dialogues with other musical genres, resulting in a distortion/connection with its source. Nuno seeks to achieve a new “I” or as the composer himself calls it “musical recycling”. Some of his works have been distinguished in international competitions, such as "This is not a poem" which received 1st Prize at the 4th Póvoa de Varzim International Composition Competition; In the 1st International Composition Competition GMCL/Jorge Peixinho for his work Conciliabulu for chamber music he won the 2nd Prize; He conquered the 1st Prize in the 2nd Composition Competition - Summer Flute Academy with his work "OU" for flute and double bass; In addiction, in the Francisco Martins 2nd Composition Competition with his project for orchestra named AGRYPNIA he won the 1st Prize.
Currently, teaches at the Professional Music School of Espinho (EPME) and José Atalaya Music Academy in Fafe. Since 2017, he has been a professor at Atlantic Coast International Conducting Academy. As well as being a guest teacher at the School of Music and Performing Arts of Porto (ESMAE) and the School of Education of Porto (ESE) since 2007, in the area of musical composition.
He has been a member of Factor E! (co-author/creator of workshops) for Casa da Música’s Educational Service, since 2007, and co-founder of the Project that was born in 2016, Raízes – Cançōes Feirenses.
