Biography
Beatriz Ilari holds an arts licentiate degree from the University of São Paulo (Brazil), a master’s degree in music performance (violin) from Montclair State University (USA), and a PhD in music from McGill University (Canada). She is currently an Associate Professor of Music Education and Chair of the Department of Music Teaching and Learning at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where she teaches graduate courses in music psychology, the sociology of music, and research methods. She has conducted extensive research with babies, preschoolers, and school-aged children from the U.S., Brazil, Canada, Japan, and Mexico. Her research is interdisciplinary, and she is currently collaborating with researchers from the Brain and Creativity Institute and the Bionic Ear Lab. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, International Journal of Music Education, Journal of Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music, Music & Science and Frontiers in Psychology.
