Juliana Pérez González joins INET-md as an Assistant Researcher
Juliana Pérez González (INET-md | DeCA | UA) joins INET-md as an Assistant Researcher with the project entitled "Liber|Sound: Innovative archiving practices for the liberation of sound memory. Recorded music, transcontinental experiences, connected communities" (PTDC/ART-PER/4405/2020) coordinated by Susana Sardo and Pedro Aragão. The new researcher is in charge of feeding the Encyclopedia of Musicians in Transit, a work dedicated to musicians who played a key role in building sound bridges between Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique and India (Goa), and whose trajectories are largely forgotten due to technological obsolescence.
About Juliana Pérez González
Juliana Pérez González is a Colombian historian, who graduated from the National University of Colombia (Bogotá), with a Master's and PhD in Social History from the University of São Paulo. Juliana is the author of the book "Las historias de la música en Hispanoamérica" (2010), which was awarded an honorable mention at the "X Prémio de Musicologia Casa de las Américas" (Cuba). His second book, "Da música folclórica à música mecânica. Mário de Andrade and the concept of popular music" (2015), won the "Social History Prize (USP-Brazil)". Her doctoral research on caipira music and phonography won 1st place in the Silvio Romero Competition in 2019 (IPHAN-Brazil). Juliana's research focuses on the history of Brazilian phonography and the musical historiography of Latin America.
About Liber | Sound project
Liber | Sound is a project that proposes the liberation of musical heritage enclosed in obsolete sound recording media (78 rpm records, magnetic tapes, cassettes) to facilitate the reactivation of memory through innovative archiving processes. It focuses on examples of micro-expressions of popular music recorded and disseminated by the recording industry during the first half of the 20th century in Portugal, Mozambique, Brazil and India (Goa), spaces that share common political histories and languages with obvious repercussions on musical transits and experiences.
