In 2023, three discographic albums featuring works from the 18th-century Portuguese Baroque were presented to the public. These first recordings provide access to a highly representative selection of instrumental music, both orchestral and chamber, spanning a broad period. The repertoire encompasses compositions published or created between approximately 1730 and 1780, found in diverse musical sources. The recordings, produced by the Portuguese groups Real Câmara Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Bonne Corde, and Ludovice Ensemble, result from specialized interpretative work and extensive and indispensable research. This research involved the identification, transcription, editing, and, in several cases, completion or re-composition of the repertoire. The artistic directors of the various groups led this effort, coordinating scientific and artistic aspects, along with the rest of the team of artists, researchers, and technicians. This roundtable seeks to succinctly present the various stages, cooperation, and correlation of the various processes, tasks, and agents. It aims to reflect on the felt needs and inherent specificities, as well as to consider the final — scientific and artistic — outcome of each of these projects and their relevance to the practical application of musicological research in Portugal.
