On the 10th of November there will be an Investiture Ceremony of the Rector, Prof. João Sàágua, and Inauguration of the Rectoral Team. At the same time, the NOVA Day Celebration will take place, which this year will be dedicated to Teaching, and will include the attribution of the title of Professor Emeritus to Professor Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco, in Rectoral Dispatch of September 17th. This title "is awarded, in an exceptional way, to retired full professors whose contribution to the activity of their organic unit is recognized as having particularly relevant merit". The special distinction reveals the relevance for her dedication to the University and for her academic and scientific importance, prouds INET-md. To Professor Salwa we express our delight and congratulations.

Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco «was the promoter of what became modern Ethnomusicology in Portugal. It developed a scientific model of Ethnomusicology that was innovative in all respects and that gave rise to a true school that was constituted through research, with the creation of the Institute of Ethnomusicology, a research center of excellence». Professor João Sàágua adds that «Professor Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco's intervention is remarkable within several institutions, with the Society for Ethnomusicology and especially the International Council for Traditional Music, a worldwide institution with consultative relations with UNESCO, in which she carries out his mandate as President. The relationship with NOVA has always been one of enormous dedication, from the coordination of the Department of Musical Sciences through to participation in the Scientific Council and Faculty Council of NOVA FCSH and finally as Vice-Dean».
