An in-depth critical reflection, from the original poetic sources, on the association between the lyrics of fado and the great questions of the public sphere that emerged during the period between the Generation of 70 and 28 May, the daily life of poor communities where fado was produced. The material conditions of their livelihood to the nature of the political regime and the brutal experience of going to war. In the three sections of this work, several dozen letters are confronted, contextualized and analyzed, which allows us to recapture the memory of the tradition of the political intervention of fado, later stifled by the censorship of Estado Novo.
