CD | Revolução e Liberdade
Revolução e Liberdade is the name of the latest CD by Quinteto de Sopros do Val, a group that has dedicated itself to publicising works by Portuguese composers for wind quintet, in collaboration with Ana Margarida Cardoso, integrated researcher at INET-md.
This album includes unpublished works for wind quintet by Gualtério Armando and Marcos Romão, as well as other composers whose works have already been recorded, such as Lopes-Graça and António Vitorino de Almeida.
On this CD, the group Quinteto de Sopros do Vale brings together composers who, in various ways, were influenced by authoritarian regimes, where musical and artistic activity was conditioned and controlled by the regime. Of them all, Lopes-Graça was the most active in the fight against the regime, but Gualtério Armando was also confronted with an environment of inequality, caused by wars and authoritarianism, and even went so far as to renounce his nationality and emigrate. Marcos Romão went through all the stages of musical professionalisation to be recognised as a musician, teacher, conductor and composer, but his works and his journey were ‘hidden’ from the histories of music. António Vitorino de Almeida lived through the transition between dictatorship and freedom, always seeking to break with artistic canons.
