The chapter “Chamber Music 1850-1918: Violin and Chamber Music in Lisbon in the Early Days of the Republic” analyzes the impact of the political changes in Lisbon, after the fall of the monarchy and the rise of the Republic in 1910, on chamber music, focusing on the role of violinists. The research focuses on the main performers, both those living in Lisbon and international soloists passing through the city, the repertoire and the performance contexts, analyzing data obtained from archives and publications of the time, such as specialized magazines and generalist periodicals, and comparing them with previous studies.
