João Pedro Oliveira receives two more international awards
Composer João Pedro Oliveira, professor at the Universidade de Aveiro and the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and member of the research team of the Instituto de Etnomusicologia – Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança has received two more international awards:
- 1st Prize in the International Composition Contest Franco Evangelisti
- International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition
The International Composition Contest Franco Evangelisti, organized by the association for contemporary music Nuova Consonanza, was held in Italy. The pieces intended for this contest should be composed for piano and electronic sounds. Two of the three pieces that were selected for the final were composed by João Pedro Oliveira (In Tempore in 2000, and Mosaic in 2010), the 1st prize being awarded to the piece Mosaic. Mosaic, for piano and electronic sounds, was commissioned by the Music Conservatory of Viseu, and was premiered by pianist Madalena Soveral in October 2010. It will be published under the auspices of the contest by the prestigious Italian publisher Suvini Zerboni.

The International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2010 is organized by the National Academy of Music in the USA, in conjunction with the Music Conservatories of Neapolis and Sykies in Greece. It is intended to reward pieces that stand out for their artistic excellence and usefulness in instrument teaching. Ḥokmah, for clarinet and piano, composed in 2009, was one of the pieces that received the award for excellence in the advanced level category. This piece was commissioned and premiered by clarinetist Nuno Pinto and pianist Elsa Silva.

Beside these two awards, Joao Pedro Oliveira in 2010 already received the prize for best European work assigned by the International Computer Music Association, awarded during the International Computer Music Conference, held in New York, and the 1st Prize in the third International Composition Contest Francis Escudero, held in Spain.
