After moving to Beijing to complete her undergraduate studies at the China Conservatory of Music with Professor Fu Hong, Yudan finished her postgraduate piano studies at the Universidade de Aveiro in Portugal from 2019 to 2021 and has continued her doctoral studies at UA with Professor Shao Xiaoling. She is also studying traditional Spanish music with Daniel Ligorio at Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Spain from 2021 to aid her PhD project further. Since 2015, Yudan has been getting prizes and experience from many international piano competitions and she regularly performs in Europe and Asia, as well as performing chamber music with various artists.
In 2018, she won the first prize in the 20th Santa-Cecelia International Piano Competition in China and the first prize of the International young pianist competition in Sichuan. In April 2019, she went to Portugal to participate in the Viseu International Piano Competition, where she won the Excellence Participant Award. In May, she participated in the 21st Santa- Cecelia International Piano Competition in China, where she won a bronze medal (there was no gold or silver medal that year) and became the only Chinese pianist selected for the Asian competition in the adult category. After 2020, she focused more on her writing, performances, and other forms of cultural communication.
She received a special invitation to play at the Sardoal International Piano Festival in October 2020, and Yudan published her essay (Aural and visual imagery in multimedia music performance) in the journal Avanca International Conference in July 2021. She was allowed to work with the Portuguese Confucius Institute for a year on a music video to promote Chinese festivals by Han Ying, the Chinese Director of the Portuguese Confucius Institute, in the same month. In November, Carlos Morais, the Director of the Portuguese Confucius Institute, invited her to perform at the launch of the Ceramics Biennale.
Yudan performed in Spain in 2022 in a chamber orchestra that also included Vicente, principal flute of the Chilean National Symphony Orchestra, and Taizhi Yan, oboe from the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music. She was invited to participate in the China-French artistic and cultural communication in July 2023 from the Chinese Embassy in France.
Title"Metaphoric Thinking on Audiovisual Performance of the 20th Century Specific Piano Works Inspired by Gardens"AdvisorAbstractMetaphoric thinking is involved in interdisciplinary research that includes many different fields, and this kind of thought is found in different civilizations. In my research, we will focus on the metaphor chain in three stages of the music performance studies, linked with emotion, gesture and visual interaction. Using examples of 20th-century piano works from East and West cultures which are influenced by gardens, we intend to explore the influence of metaphoric thinking in performing these specific piano works. Keywords: Audiovisual; Metaphoric Thinking; Piano works by garden; Manuel de Falla; Debussy; Takemitsu
