Biography

Mónica Chambel is a doctoral student in Music Analysis and Theory, at the University of Aveiro, mainly interested in Portuguese music in the 20th century, experimentation in music and interartistic relationships. She develops work related to the music-theater works of Constança Capdeville and is a grantee of the project "Xperimus - Experimentation in music in Portuguese culture: History, contexts and practices in the 20th and 21st centuries". She was a grant holder of the project "Euterpe unveiled: Women in Portuguese musical creation and interpretation during the 20th and 21st centuries" and producer of the project "Capdeville XXI", funded by DGArtes.

Abstract

Research on heritage issues related to contemporary musical performance is recent, and publications proposing performative protocols that enable the recreation of mixed works, with electronic or scenic contents totally or partially missing, are scarce (Sousa Dias 2009; Ransbeeck et al. 2012; Leumonton et al. 2019; Marinho et al. 2020). Most affected by this problem are the contents of composers from the second half of the twentieth century, such as Constança Capdeville, whose studies have privileged biographical, analytical and documentary components.

In order to reverse this trend, this research focuses on the repertoire with a scenic component of this composer, namely the works of music-theater (the composer's preferred designation), through the articulation between an archaeological approach inspired by Foucault's epistemological proposal (1969), an ethnographic approach (Bayley 2011) and an experimental approach (Assis 2018). This combination includes archival work and artistic research, seeking to study performative issues associated with these repertoires, and to develop protocols and procedures for their recreation and reintegration in artistic circuits.
