Doctoral Project

This research is focused on the PhD in music in the field of performance, developed within the scope of the Doctoral Program in Music of the University of Aveiro. Framed as an artistic investigation, this research is focused on the performance of live trumpet and electronic music (Live electronics), composed in the 1970s. The theme emerged from the meetings at the Live Looping laboratory at the Electronic Music Research Center (CIME) at the University of Aveiro and focused on three specific motivations (Maxwell, 1996): personal, practical, and research. Personal motivation concerns my interest in artistic improvement as a trumpeter. The practical motivation concerns my interest in rescuing a repertoire that has been forgotten by the community of classical trumpeters, as is my case. Finally, the research motivation concerns my interest in exploring the possibilities of live trumpet and electronic music, identifying interpretive alternatives that contemplate other views on this repertoire that could be explored by other instrumentalists. With the support of the University of Aveiro live looping laboratory through researcher Alex Duarte, the research will be divided into two stages: research and creation. In the first stage the focus will be to develop new schedules for each work in the PD. In the second stage, the focus will be the research of performance possibilities of the selected works. After the possible survey of all the conditions, parameters and resources involved in the execution of them in their original context, a period of artistic investigation will begin, seeking to find new solutions, in a re-written process, rewritten. and of recreation leading to an admittedly contemporary performance of these same works. Throughout this process, meetings with composers, specialists in writing instrument music and live electronics will be held. In these meetings I will aim to scrutinize the possibilities of recreation, rereading, and rewriting that will allow feedback on the work done. At the same time, the meetings provided here will contribute to the dissemination and promotion of repertoire based on DP, with these composers. It should be noted that a series of public performances will also be held that will allow us to evaluate the efficiency of the creative work done.
