Biography

Isabel Soveral was born in Porto, Portugal. She studied at the National Conservatory with grants from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with composers Jorge Peixinho and Joly Braga Santos . She obtained the master's and doctoral degrees in composition at at the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a scholarship from Fulbright Foundation, Gulbenkian and FLAD. The publishers Musicoteca, Fermata, CIMP and Cecilia Honegger have edited her scores. Has several works in Cd by the publishers Portugalsom Strauss, EMI Classics, New Music, Capella, Deux-Elles, Numerical and Portugaler. Her music has been performed in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Poland, Hong Kong, Macau, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and the United States. She is a professor in the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro since 1995. She is member of the scientific advisory board of the Center for Information and Research on Portuguese Music (CIMP) since 1998.
