Biography

Luca Chiantore (Milan, 1966) is an Italian musician and scholar, PhD in Musicology from the Universitat Autònima de Barcelona. He has given lectures and masterclasses in more than 300 universities in Europe, Asia, America and Africa, playing as a concert pianist in great concert venues such as the Carnegie Hall (New York), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Palacio de Bellas Artes (México City) and the Museo de Arte de Sao Paulo. His activity as a researcher is focused on the 19th-century piano repertoire and the theory and history of performance in Western classical music. His Historia de la técnica pianística was published in 2001; an extensively revised English version of this book (A history of piano technique) has been released by Musikeon Books in 2016. He is the author of the first book to be published on Ludwig van Beethoven’s widely unknown keyboard exercises (Beethoven al piano: Improvisación, composición e investigación sonora en sus ejercicios técnicos, 2010; Italian version, 2014). Together with Áurea Domínguez and Sílvia Martínez, he has published in 2016 Escribir sobre música, the first Spanish manual of style about writing on music.  Since 2003, he has directed Musikeon, a company offering musicological services throughout Spain and Latin America. In addition, he is a lecturer at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), and teaches at Katarina Gurska Music School in Madrid and at the Doctorate in Music of the Universidade de Aveiro.
