Biography
Cristina Ioan is a Romanian-Portuguese flutist actively involved in projects to promote new works and enjoys collaborating with contemporary composers to explore and expand the artistic possibilities of the flute. In her activity as a flutist spanning more than 20 years, she has premiered several works for flute dedicated to her by Nuno Pexioto de Pinho, Carlos Guedes, David Lesser, Matthew Quayle, Cristóbal MarYan, and Dimitris Andrikopoulos and had concerts in Romania, France, Portugal, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates.
A strong advocate for interdisciplinary approaches, Cristina's research and artistic endeavors extend to music for dance and films, reflecting her broad vision of artistic creation. Her research delves into integrating the voice in flute performance to expand technical and creative possibilities, offering new artistic pathways for flutists and composers. She has presented some of her work as a researcher and performer at Music Conferences, her most recent participation was in the artistic research conference "Crosswinds: Collaborative Creativity as transformative practice " in Portugal in 2023.
Cristina holds a PhD in Music Performance from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, and is an Adjunct Flute Instructor at New York University Abu Dhabi.
