News | Lectures at Brown and Harvard Universities on the Role of Women in Music in Portugal and Brazil
Inês Thomas Almeida (INET-md), currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, delivered two lectures at Brown University and Harvard University. Presented within the scope of the Thematic Line on Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at INET-md, both lectures were titled Invisible Legacies Throughout History: How Women Shaped Music in Portugal and Brazil.
Both events attracted large audiences, reflecting the strong interest in historical Portuguese musicology—and particularly its gender dimension—at two of the United States’ leading universities.

Inês Thomas Almeida is currently developing the INET-md research project "FEMUS 18 – Female Music Practice in 18th-Century Portugal: Spaces and Profiles of Women Making Music" (2023.09324.CEECIND/ CP2836/CT0042).
