It was with great sadness that the Institute of Ethnomusicology – Center for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md) received the news of the death of musicologist, conductor and composer Ivan Moody. Born in London in 1964, Ivan Moody studied composition with Brian Dennis, John Tavener and William Brooks, and received his doctorate from the University of York. Established in Portugal for several decades, he was a researcher and member of the board of the Centre for the Study of Sociology and Musical Aesthetics (CESEM).

Ivan Moody was editor of the Journal of the International Society for Orthodox Church Music and, between 2015 and 2021, general co-editor of the Revista Portuguesa de Musicologia - Nova Série, published jointly by SPIM - Sociedade Portuguesa de Investigação em Música, CESEM and INET-md. Over these seven years, he has made a decisive contribution to the consolidation of the RMP project, which he helped to build based on criteria of high scientific rigour and openness to different geographies, the promotion of new disciplinary approaches and the work of young researchers, as well as the defence of the Portuguese language in the international musicological debate.

INET-md sends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
