On October 17, at 6 p.m., the auditorium of the Department of Communication and Art (DeCA) of the University of Aveiro (UA) will host a concert by Duo Sigma, dedicated to the interpretation of contemporary music with an emphasis on the Luso-Brazilian repertoire. This event is part of the "Momentum Cycle of Conferences and Concerts - Composers and Interpreters in the 1st Person" and is part of the initiatives promoted by the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Center for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md).
Formed by Portuguese cellist Miguel Rocha and Brazilian pianist Ana Cláudia Assis, Duo Sigma is dedicated to the interpretation of contemporary music with an emphasis on Luso-Brazilian repertoire. This Duo, created in 2017, has performed in concert halls in Latin America and Europe with a very diverse repertoire. Although throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, there was an intense production of great works for cello and piano, from the 20th century onwards there was a certain distancing between composers and this formation, probably due to the symbolic charge of the romantic period that it carries. In this way, Duo Sigma also emerged as a stimulus for the creation of new works and new artistic expressions for cello and piano.
Throughout its career, the Duo has collaborated with internationally renowned composers such as Bruce Reiprich (USA), Roberto Victorio (BR), João Pedro Oliveira (PT), Luis Menacho (AR), and Isabel Soveral (PT).
Duo Sigma is currently preparing to record its fourth album, dedicated entirely to Russian and Ukrainian music for cello and piano.
Momentum Conference and Concert Series - Composers and performers in the first person
This is another of the events included in the "Momentum Cycle of Conferences and Concerts - Composers and Performers in the 1st Person", an initiative that aims to give a voice to composers and performers, revealing their paths in a more informal way. The aim is for each meeting to be a moment of debate and sharing on matters of musical creation and interpretation. The associated concerts, which are often commented on, help to bring the public closer to contemporary music.
The concert is open to the public and admission is free.
