Seeing Sound, Drawing Migrations
An Exhibition of Ethnographic Drawings
06 to 30.07.2023 | Largo Residências | Quartel do Cabeço de Bola
Seeing Sounds, Drawing Migrations is an exhibition of ethnographic drawings by Ruqia Rahimi (Afghanistan), Athena Pipinis (Greece), and Beatriz Machado (Portugal). These are illustrations about music education as a tool for social inclusion for young migrants and refugees in Europe. The fieldwork took place in 2022 at the Dream Orchestra in Sweden and El Sistema Greece, where the main artist, Beatriz Machado, developed a set of observation drawings during classes, rehearsals, and interviews.
Ways of drawing are revealed and ways of seeing are promoted. This is the final exhibition of YOUSOUND, a research project in the social sciences, curated by Alix Sarrouy, member of the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Music and Dance, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, New University of Lisbon.
