78 Rotações Cycle | Valeria Lobão Concert
During the decades from 1910 to 1960 many songs crossed the Atlantic creating musical dialogues between the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. Through the voice of Valéria Lobão, this concert presents a selection of urban songs that exemplify this Iberian-American sound flow.
The repertoire will focus on the composers and performers who stood out in the context of radio and the 78 rpm record, and who played a fundamental role in the creation of Luso-Brazilian and Latin American urban popular song. Currently living in Porto, Valéria Lobão is one of today's most relevant Brazilian interpreters, having released two solo albums: the first, entitled "Chamada", which earned her the prestigious FUNARTE award, was released in 2011 and focuses on contemporary Brazilian composers. The second, dedicated to the songs of Noel Rosa, with special arrangements by musicians such as João Donato, Cristóvão Bastos and Gilson Peranzzeta, was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2015.
The concert also features Sergio Valdeos - a Peruvian guitarist currently based in Geneva - and Pedro Aragão on mandolin. Issac Raimundo will be in charge of the phonographic installation.
