Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco, Professor at the Department of Musicology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon, president of the Ethnomusicology Institute – Center for Studies in Music and Dance and the International Council for Traditional Music was given an award by the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem (in the photo to the right of Prof. Castelo-Branco) in recognition of her contribution to ethnomusicological research. The ceremony took place on November 1 at Cairo's Opera House in the presence of the director of the Opera house, Dr. Magdy Saber (to the left of Prof. Castelo-Branco) and several other officials of the Ministry of Culture. The ceremony took place within the context of the twenty eighth edition of the Arab Music Festival, one of the most important international events for the promotion of Arabic Music in Egypt and other Arab countries. The award is announced on the site of the Camões Institute.
