Lecture | Tia Amélia - the piano and the incredible life of the composer
Jeanne de Castro | Faculdade Cásper Líbero
Tia Amélia had a very successful weekly television show for 10 years (1958-1968), recorded four LPs and was widely admired by her contemporaries, such as Vinicius de Moraes, Dorival Caymmi, Pixinguinha, among others. In addition, she formed a generation of notable composers, such as Egberto Gismonti, Angela Ro Ro and many others. Despite her career and legacy, Tia Amélia was erased from Brazilian culture, a phenomenon that is now widely discussed internationally. With the recording of the CD Tia Amélia Para Sempre (2020), pianist Hercules Gomes gave visibility to her work. With Jeanne de Castro's biography, Tia Amélia returns to her place in the history of Brazilian music, where she should never have left.
