ACTUS (The Audience as Performer) is a project focused on creating artistic responses that contemplate audience participation as a performer in contemporary classical music. The objectives include the creation of memorabilia relating to audience participation in the musical work; the identification of ideas, main concepts, and types of audience participation in the current paradigm of contemporary classical music (with special emphasis on Portugal); the development of strategies for integrating the audience into the musical composition; and the creation of works based on the strategies above. The ACTUS project integrates artistic research, documentar research and case studies to respond to the possible research gap on participatory classical music, contributing to the reduction of audience alienation at contemporary music concerts.
