With an emphasis on the need for younger people to have access to the work and life of Camões, on inter-artistic dialogue between literature and music and on the topicality of Camões studies, the School of Education (ESE) of the Polytechnic of Porto is organising the meeting ‘Camões 500. Presence and permanence’, which will take place on 30 October 2024, in the ESE buildings (Rua Dr. Roberto Frias 602, 4200-465 Porto), and is open to students, invited researchers and other interested parties, who must register by writing to Dr. Elisama Oliveira, This email address is being protected from spambots. As part of the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões, the initiative belongs to the CIPEM-INET-md of Porto, EMTC Research Group - Education, Music and Theatre in the Community; the INED of the ESE of Porto - IEL-C (Research Centre for Literary and Cultural Studies); and involves a partnership with the Interuniversity Centre for Camonian Studies of the University of Coimbra and the ESE Library. Besides talks by lecturers and researchers from ESE Porto and CIPEM-INET-md, the initiative will feature talks by José Carlos Seabra Pereira, a Camonist from the University of Coimbra (on the work and life of the poet); Sara Reis da Silva, a professor at the University of Minho; and musicologist Tiago Manuel da Hora (INET-md, NOVA FCSH), entitled, in this case, ‘Music in the time of Camões: paths through the soundtrack of the history of music in Portugal in the 16th century’. There will also be a performance by master's student Regina Duarte (ESE P. Porto and ESMAE), with accompanying musician, performing songs from the time of Camões.
