Vargas, Salazar e and the Fate of the Violas | Conference

What organological transformations have taken place in Portuguese and Brazilian violas to the point where they have become so different today? Could factors such as their inclusion in the music market since the 1930s, with large sales of the genre (música caipira) with which they were initially associated, radio, the establishment in São Paulo of chordophone factories run by Italians from the beginning of the 20th century and the performance demands of musicians from the 1970s onwards have contributed to these differentiations? Were these the only levers for the changes that took place? Could the macro-event of how the Estado Novo treated the popular cultures of the two countries in Portugal and Brazil have contributed to these distinctions since the 1930s?
