Abstract

This conference intends to deepen, in the national and international academic environment, the reflection on two of the biggest musical and television events in Portugal and Europe: the Festival RTP da Canção (organized by RTP since 1964) and the Eurovision Song Contest (organized since 1956 by the União European Broadcasting Union). It is intended to provide a space for debate and reflection of an academic nature around these two events.

In this plan, a conference organized in two sessions is presented: one on February 17, 2018 at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa; and another between the 7th and 9th of May 2018 at the EuroCafé space, in Lisbon (provided by the Lisbon City Council), in the weeks preceding each of the events.

This conference is part of a partnership between two entities, the Institute of Ethnomusicology – Center for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md) and OGAE – Portugal (Associação OGAE Portugal – General Organization of Support to Eurovision), with the support of a journalist, researcher and professor at the University of Hannover (Germany) – Irving Wolther.
