10-11.05.2022 | Turim | Hybrid Form

"Adding value: Music & Public Television"

The EUROVISIONS conference is back in 2022 in a hybrid form. The two days of the conference - 10 and 11 May - will take place live in Turin during the ESC week, but will also be broadcast on YouTube and via the EUROVISIONS social media.

SALA LAUREE of the Centro Aldo Moro will be this year's venue where, between 10:00 and 13:30 (CET), there will be lectures, round tables, and the launch of a book in the presence of academics, music and television professionals and fans of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Since the beginning of television broadcasting, music has occupied an important place in TV scheduling. From live performances to videoclips, music content is one of the most efficient audience aggregators. In Europe, public television broadcasting has been used to develop a shared European identity and the Eurovision Song Contest is the best example of how music can create a sense of inclusion and belonging.

This fifth edition of the EUROVISIONS International Conference wants to bring to the centre of the discussion the added value of music in the setting of public television broadcasting. At a time when the Eurovision brand is extending to the American continent, which is predominantly covered by private broadcasters, EUROVISIONS wants to highlight the challenges that public service faces and the way in which music can be a content capable of aggregating vast and heterogeneous audiences.

EUROVISIONS 2022 is the result of a partnership between researchers from Germany, Portugal and UK and the University of Turin. Following the work developed in the previous editions - Lisbon, 2018; Tel Aviv, 2019; Online 2020, 2021 - the EUROVISIONS conference continues to be a platform for the sharing and discussion of academic and non-academic thinking about the ESC.
