 The Institute of Ethnomusicology - Centre for Music and Dance Studies (INET-md) and the Universidade de Aveiro will host the online symposiumACTUS: Audience as Performers, on the 8th and 9th of November 2024. This event is linked to the project “ACTUS: Audience as Performers”, a project funded by INET-md, with funds from FCT. Researcher Sara Carvalho leads the project, in collaboration with researcher Gilvano Dalagna and doctoral student Daiana Maciel.
 
This symposium aims to explore aspects related to the Audience as Performers. We invite anyone who relates to this theme to send a proposal. We aim to include in the symposium’s program composers, performers, members of the audience, artists working with sound, scholars, music promoters, and anyone interested in exploring strategies for building audiences through the music scene.
 
 
Main focus points:
1. Audience as an essential part of the artistic concept: A forum that explores how composers and sound artists create with the Audience in mind.
2. Processes involved in performing with the audience: A forum that reflects on how performers re-think the performative stage with the Audience.
3. Audiences’ perspectives while engaging in live new music events: A forum that intends to understand the audience’s personal perspectives.
4. Building audiences through performanceA forum that aims to explore strategies on how to build audiences through the music scene.
5. Mapping participatory music in western art concerts: A forum that aims to discuss examples of participatory compositions and performances.
 


Call for papers
Proposals compatible with the conference’s themes are invited in a paper presentation format (up to 30 minutes).

Publication opportunities
Apart from the online abstract proceedings e-book (for all accepted proposals at the symposium), selected authors will be invited to develop their presentation into a peer-reviewed book chapter, for the book ACTUS: Audience as Performers book publication, edited by Sara Carvalho and Gilvano Dalagna. 
 
Important Dates:
Abstract submission: 1st October 2024
Presenters’ notification: 15th October 2024.
ACTUS Symposium: 8th and 9th of November 2024.
Full papers submission: 1st December 2024
 
 
Registration
The symposium is free to attend, but registration is mandatory. Online registration will be open between the 15th to the 30th October 2024. More information about registration will be sent directly to the accepted authors.
