Pedro Rodrigues, investigador do Instituto de Etnomusicologia – Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança (INET-md), participou na conferência internacional "The Guitar Foundation of America Convention & Competitions", que decorreu de 17 a 22 de junho, na Califórnia. Pedro Rodrigues marcou presença na prestigiada conferência "The Guitar Foundation of America Convention & Competitions". O evento, realizado na Califórnia de 17 a 22 de junho, é reconhecido como a maior conferência do mundo no âmbito da guitarra, reunindo conferencistas de várias instituições internacionais incluindo a University of Denver, University of Oxford, Australian National University, University of Colorado, Dalhousie University, University of California, University of Wisconsin, University of Surrey, Brunel University e TU Dublin. 
 
No dia 19 de junho, apresentou a comunicação intitulada "Style and State: Politics and the Evolution of the Classical Guitar in Portugal during the Twentieth Century", que explora como a evolução do movimento da guitarra clássica portuguesa reflete, nos níveis composicional, pedagógico e de performance, as dinâmicas interligadas das sociedades políticas e artísticas desde o início dos anos 1900 até o final dos anos 1990.
 
 
Abstract "Style and State: Politics and the Evolution of the Classical Guitar in Portugal during the Twentieth Century"
 
The 20th century in Portugal witnessed a turmoil of political regimes that significantly shaped its society and its culture. The end of the pluricentennial monarchy in 1910 led to the foundation of the First Republic, which, in turn, was overthrown by the National Dictatorship (1926). This regime gave rise to the New State (1933), which marked one of the longest European dictatorships and reached its conclusion in 1974 through the Carnation Revolution, a pivotal moment that paved the way for the thriving of Portuguese democracy. This paper aims to explore how the evolution of the Portuguese classical guitar movement reflects, on compositional, pedagogical, and performance levels, the intertwined dynamics of both political and artistic societies from the early 1900s until the late 1990s. I shall describe how French and Spanish influences shaped the first half of the 20th century, highlighting as main characters, from a Gallic social and artistic perspective, António dos Santos Fonseca (1858–1937) and António Augusto Urceira (fl.1886–1957). Under Castilian influence, notable musicians include Agustin Rebel Hernandez (fl.1890–1930) and António Simões Barbas (1849–1916). We observe how this confluence, marked by the presence of Emilio Pujol (1886–1980) at the Lisbon National Conservatory, led to the emergence of a national neoromanticism, championed by Duarte Costa (1921–2004) mainly during the New State period. Thanks to the democratic and public artistic education system established after the Carnation Revolution (1974), the guitar became integrated into official music school programs. This integration allowed it to engage and develop alongside the international artistic world freely.
