During her academic path, she joins GEFAC – Ethnography and Folklore Group of the Coimbra Academy and her interest on studying and transforming traditional Portuguese repertoire starts developing. She explores instruments such as “bombo”, “caixa”, “adufe” and “pandeiro”, but mostly her voice. In 2015, she joins the group “Las Çarandas” as vocalist and instrumentalist. In 2017, she co-founds the group “Lôa Trovadoresca” and, in 2019, joins the group “Colectivo FOICE”.
Raquel Melo frequently collaborates with several projects related to traditional Portuguese Music, from which the highlights are her collaboration with “Segue-me à Capela”, “Colectivo Ciranda” and, in 2018, a participation in the album from Quiné Teles. Apart from her work as a musician, she regularly participates in arts and community projects, such as her work with PELE – Cultural Association.
Currently, she is a researcher in the project EcoMusic – Sustainable Practices: a study on pos-folklorism in Portugal in the 21st century, at the Institute of Ethnomusicology – Centre for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md), at the University of Aveiro’s branch.
