Born in Rio de Janeiro, Alba Bomfim holds a bachelor's degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, a degree and a master's degree in Music from the University of Brasília. She was a winner of 2009 Eleazar de Carvalho Prize. She participated in masterclasses under the guidance of the maestros: Christopher Zimmerman, Kirk Trevor, Colin Metters, Fabio Mechetti, Harold Farberman, Dirk Brossé, John Farrer and Marin Alsop. She has conducted orchestras such as the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, Astoria Symphony, Rose City Chamber Orchestra, Berlin Sinfonieta, Bohuslav Martinu, Beiras Philharmonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of New York and BBC Concert Orchestra. In November of 2017, Alba was one of six conductors, selected among 161 from around the world, to attend the Hart Institute of The Dallas Opera in the United States. From 2007 to 2012, as an effective teacher of the Education Department of the Federal District, she taught cello, conducting and chamber music classes at CEP - Escola de Música de Brasília. She is currently an adjunct professor of conducting and orchestral activities at the Music Department of the Federal University of Piauí (Brazil) and since October 2014 she is a Ph.D. candidate in Orchestral Conducting Studies at the University of Aveiro under Maestro António Lourenço’s guidance and Dr. Gilvano Dalagna’s co-supervision. Since 2015, Alba Bomfim is a fellow at CAPES and a researcher at INET-MD.
