Biography
Born in Ganda (Angola), priest, graduated in choir direction and master in composition at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music of Rome under the guidance of Maestro Valentino Miserachs Grau, Moisés Rafael is a PhD candidate in Musical Sciences, specialization in Ethnomusicology at FCSH/NOVA.
In 2009 he designed the Kawanga Cultural Village project, together with Italian friends and collaborators he founded the Ítalo-Angolan Ondango Philanthropic Association.
His main interest in academic research focuses on the analysis of the body expression of the various participants in the Eucharistic celebration in Kawanga (Benguela), with the main objective of increasing the ethnomusicological understanding of the cultic and liturgical context as a performative space in Kawanga. He develops analytical strategies of idiosyncratic meanings of body expressions, including dance, gestures and various movements by participants in the context of the Catholic Mass and outside it.

Abstract
This study focuses on the analysis of the body expression of the various participants in the Eucharistic celebration in Kawanga (Benguela). Its general objective is to deepen the ethnomusicological understanding of the cultic and liturgical context as a performative space in Kawanga. As a particular objective, among others, it aims to develop analytical strategies of idiosyncratic meanings of body expressions, including dance, gestures and diverse movements by participants in the context of the Catholic Mass and outside it. The method of ethnographic character to be applied will include different kinds of collaboration with agents in the field. In closed ethic/emic relation, collaborative ethnography will include participant observation, interviews, informal conversations, recordings and audio-visual recordings in liturgical celebrations and other performative moments in the area under study. The direct presence in the Kawanga community between 2017 and 2018 will be an integral part of this research project.
