Biography
Isabel Alcobia | Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro, where she completed her PhD. in 2014. Isabel Alcobia holds a Bachelor degree from the ESCM, the Superior School for Voice, Madrid, and a Master's degree in Singing from the University of Cincinatti. She is very active in a range of artistic projects in Portugal, performing at the most important music festivals in Portugal, and with the most prestigious Portuguese orchestras. Her professional singing career encompasses performances in Spain, France, England, Germany, the USA and the East, from solo recitals with renowned Portuguese pianists to opera productions and performing with orchestras, including two concerts with the tenor José Carreras at his invitation. She also took part in his farewell concert in Portugal, in September 2019, as an invited singer. She has given innumerous world premieres, and has appeared on various radio and television programmes, in addition to her diverse discography. These include the world premiere of Auto de Coimbra by Manuel Faria (Municipal Council of Coimbra, 2004) and the CDs Music for D. João VI and D. Carlota (Numérica NM 1165, 2008) and Do fado à canção erudita: Obras para voz e piano de Frederico de Freitas (Numérica NM 1246,2012). As an educator in Singing, she conducts annual courses and masterclasses throughout Portugal as well as in European and Chinese universities, to which she is regularly invited. She has been a member of juries in several singing competitions. She obtained several awards in singing competitions herself, including the 1st Prize in the "Cleveland International Einsteddfod" competition (England) and the “Three Arts scholarship", in Cincinnati (U.S.A).
