Biography
Nuno Aroso (1978). Widely recognised as one of the most active European performers of contemporary music today, Aroso leads his artistic career putting a strong focus on the development of the percussion repertoire and literature, fomenting creative collaborations with many composers from the most varied aesthetic fields. He premiered more than 120 works and recorded part of this repertoire for prestigious labels like Naxos, Wergo, and others. He appears as guest professor, researcher, jury member, soloist or chamber performer in many percussion and contemporary music events in Portugal, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Brazil, China, Ukraine, Thailand, South Africa, Argentina, Greece, Sweden, England, Canada, Bulgaria, Cuba, Tunisia, Scotland, South Korea, Japan, Chile, etc. Nuno Aroso graduated from ESMAE in Portugal with the highest mark in the final recital and pursued his studies in Strasbourg and Paris - France. Nuno holds a PhD from the Portuguese Catholic University after the thesis, The Gesture’s Narrative - Contemporary Music for Percussion. He is head of percussion at Minho University in Portugal and visiting professor at the recently created Escuela Superior de Musica de Extremadura, in Spain. In the present year he is also the percussion invited professor at Aveiro University.
