Miguel Carvalho has been awarded the "Patent Innovation Award"
PhD student and researcher at INET-md | FCSH, Miguel Carvalho has been awarded the "PATENT INNOVATION AWARD" by Nixon Peabody LLP, which is a provisional patent registration in the amount of $ 5000.
The European Innovation Academy is an acceleration program in digital innovation that took place between 16 July and 4 August 2017 and brought together 300 entrepreneurs and around 50 investors from around the world.
The INET-md’s researcher project was titled HeriTECH 3D and its main objectives are to preserve, discover and share the Cultural Heritage, overcoming geographical and temporal limitations.
According to the researcher, the idea is to enable, through 3D scanning technologies, the creation of virtual models of high-resolution artifacts, in order to preserve them for posterity. In addition, 3D models of these artifacts can be made available virtually, online, as well as tangibly across the world through the printing of 3D replicas. Another important aspect is the use of 3D replicas of artefacts is to enable people with visual impairments to access a patrimony that is unknown to them still today.
Finally, the combination of post-processing CAD software with simulation and analysis techniques also makes it possible to create new knowledge about these artifacts for a better interpretation of the past.
