INET-md at FCSH, Lisbon, comprises two laboratories for media digitalisation and restoration, where several public and private collections have been digitalized – including unreleased field recordings and historical commercial phonograms (78 rpm). The Institute is the only national institution developing such activity and has served as a consultant for the treatment of sound documents and for raising awareness about sound heritage. LAM has also collaborated with several institutions: radio stations, museums, archives, publishers and researchers.

LAM combines and articulates various research and technical components:

  • ethnomusicological, archival and acoustic knowledge;
  • restoration and archival of sound documents;
  • research on new digitalization techniques;
  • academic disciplines in the fields of sound techniques and technology.
